ABSTRACT

Non-Drug Intervention (NDI) is one of the important means to prevent and control the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and the implementation of this series of measures plays a key role in the development of the epidemic. The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of different mitigation measures on the situation of the COVID 19, and effectively respond to the prevention and control situation in the "post-epidemic era". The present work is based on the Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Remove-Susceptible (SEIRS) Model, and adapted the agent-based model (ABM) to construct the epidemic prevention and control model framework to simulate the COVID-19 epidemic from three aspects: social distance, personal protection, and bed resources. The experiment results show that the above NDI are effective mitigation measures for epidemic prevention and control, and can play a positive role in the recurrence of COVID-19, but a single measure cannot prevent the recurrence of infection peaks and curb the spread of the epidemic;When social distance and personal protection rules are out of control, bed resources will become an important guarantee for epidemic prevention and control. Although the spread of the epidemic cannot be curbed, it can slow down the recurrence of the peak of the epidemic;When people abide by social distance and personal protection rules, the pressure on bed resources will be eased. At the same time, under the interaction of the three measures, not only the death toll can be reduced, but the spread of the epidemic can also be effectively curbed. © 2022 ACM.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the effect of distance education on the level of educational achievement of children during the Corona period in ten primary schools in the Emirate of Dubai. To achieve the objectives of the study the researchers adopted the descriptive analytical approach. The quantitative method of data collection had been applied using the electronic questionnaire tool consisted of four main axes for data collection and had been distributed to the study sample consisted of 190 students' parents and administrators selected by using simple random techniques. The results of the study indicated that the participation of students in the educational process, and in the establishment of appropriate educational programs and applications for the transmission to distance learning have contributed to reducing the negative effects of the process of shifting from traditional education / face-to-face education classroom teaching to virtual classroom (ZOOM).The study recommended the need for strengthening distance education mechanisms, which contribute in developing the student's interests, tendencies, attitudes, concentrating on the study material, and using of safe and secured electronic devices to increase the search for additional information to reach the correct knowledge. Also, the school administration should have good e-learning plan ahead with required financial credits that will help in overcoming the crisis and mange distance learning processes to reach future objectives successfully. © 2022 Owner/Author.

ABSTRACT

We study the behavior of an economic platform (e.g., Amazon, Uber Eats, Instacart) under shocks, such as COVID-19 lockdowns, and the effect of different regulation considerations. To this end, we develop a multi-agent simulation environment of a platform economy in a multi-period setting where shocks may occur and disrupt the economy. Buyers and sellers are heterogeneous and modeled as economically-motivated agents, choosing whether or not to pay fees to access the platform. We use deep reinforcement learning to model the fee-setting and matching behavior of the platform, and consider two major types of regulation frameworks: (1) taxation policies and (2) platform fee restrictions. We offer a number of simulated experiments that cover different market settings and shed light on regulatory tradeoffs. Our results show that while many interventions are ineffective with a sophisticated platform actor, we identify a particular kind of regulation - fixing fees to the optimal, no-shock fees while still allowing a platform to choose how to match buyers and sellers - as holding promise for promoting the efficiency and resilience of the economic system. © 2023 ACM.

ABSTRACT

Post Covid-19 education posed an equally challenging task among teachers and learners. During these times limitation on face-to-face learning and gradual emigration from full online means of instruction had become an issue worth solving. Schools opted to adapt hybrid learning modalities as a means to cope with the learning demands in this era. However, most schools are put on a disadvantage because of the required technologies to support this mode of learning. This research describes an initial design and demonstration of a portable mobile cloud network to support synchronous learning. The system was installed and tested on both a schoolwide and classroom setting. Initial results showed that the proposed system was favorable as an alternative means to hybrid learning. © 2022 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

In recent years, the concentration levels of various air pollutants have been constantly increasing, primarily due to the high vehicle flow. In 2020, however, severe lockdowns in Greece were imposed to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a rapid reduction in the concentration levels of air pollutants such as PM2.5 and PM10 in the atmosphere. Initially, this paper seeks to identify the correlation between the concentration levels of PM10 and the traffic flow by acquiring data from low-cost IoT devices which were placed in Thessaloniki, Greece, from March to August 2020. The correlation and the linearity between the two parameters were further investigated by applying descriptive analytics, regression techniques, Pearson correlation, and independent T-testing. The obtained results indicate that the concentration levels of PM10 are strongly correlated to the vehicle flow. Therefore, the results hint that the decrease in the vehicle flow could result in improving the quality of environmental air. Finally, the acquired results point out that the temperature and humidity are weakly correlated with the concentration levels of PM10 present in the atmosphere.

ABSTRACT

COVID-19, a viral respiratory illness, is caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Corona Virus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was first identified in Wuhan, China, in 2019 and rapidly spread worldwide. Testing and isolation were essential to control the virus's transmission due to the severity of the disease. In this context, there is a global interest in the feasibility of employing nano-biosensors, especially those using graphene as a key material, for the real-time detection of the virus. The exceptional properties of graphene and the outstanding performance of nano-biosensors in identifying various viruses prompted a feasibility check on this technology. This paper focuses on the recent advances in using graphene-based electrochemical biosensors for sensing the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Specifically, it reviews various types of electrochemical biosensors, including amperometric, potentiometric, and impedimetric biosensors, and discusses the current challenges associated with biosensors for SARS-CoV-2 detection. The conclusion of this review discusses future directions in the field of electrochemical biosensors for SARS-CoV-2 detection, underscoring the importance of continued research and development in this domain.

People's way of consuming media changed tremendously with rapid technological improvements and increased internet penetration levels across India due to emergence of over-the-top media services (OTT) platforms. COVID-19 outbreak has tremendously increased the demand for OTT streaming channels like Netflix, Amazon prime, Zee 5, Alt Balaji and Disney Hotstar which transformed the world of entertainment and media by contributing mind blowing services during the lockdown period.This research paper is an attempt to study the shift in media consumption patterns from old ways of entertainment like cinema, television to new ways of entertainment like OTT platforms, study and analyze the consumer preference towards choice of OTT platforms, watching habits of online over the top (OTT) applications among Indian viewers. © 2023 IEEE.

ABSTRACT

With the validity of the Constitution of the Republic of 2008, the protection of personal data that is constantly at risk of being violated, due to the development of technology and the use of different digital platforms, is guaranteed. For this reason, it is necessary to identify which rights are implicit and how they can be violated. In Ecuador, particularly since the Covid-19 pandemic, the use of apps has become more frequent, as well as the requirement of information on the health of people by the State, for this reason, it is important to analyze the respective regulation around the subject that has been carried out with the validity of the Personal Data Protection Law. For this purpose, a descriptive research with a qualitative approach has been used, based on the exegetical analysis of the constitutional norms, as well as the Organic Law of Jurisdictional Guarantees and Constitutional Control in contrast to the Organic Law of Data Protection of Ecuador. ABSTRACT

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir sobre as relações de comunicação constituídas no contexto do trabalho de entrega (delivery) mediado por plataformas digitais, considerando especificamente o caso da empresa iFood no Brasil. Trata-se de uma proposta que busca refletir como a referida empresa opta, no projeto e na interface do seu aplicativo, por uma interação limitada com os trabalhadores que realizam a atividade de entrega. Pode-se dizer que, nesse sentido, existe uma assimetria de informação nas relações entre a empresa de plataforma digital e os chamados "entregadores”, visto que a empresa possui o monopólio da informação do processo de trabalho gerenciado e controlado algoritmicamente por ela própria. A discussão apresentada neste artigo se apoia em resultados de uma pesquisa empírica realizada com trabalhadores que utilizaram o aplicativo de delivery da empresa iFood na região sul do país, em 2020, no contexto da pandemia de COVID-19.Alternate :The aim of this article is to discuss the communication relationships established in the context of food delivery work mediated by digital platforms, specifically considering the case of the iFood company in Brazil. It is a proposal that seeks to reflect how the before-mentioned company chooses, in the design and interface of its app, for a limited interaction with the workers who carry out the delivery work. It can be said that, in this sense, there is an information asymmetry in the relationships between the digital platform company and the so-called "delivery riders”, since the company has a monopoly of information in the work process managed and algorithmically controlled by itself. The discussion presented in this article is based on the results of an empirical research carried out with workers who used the iFood company's delivery app in the southern Brazil, in 2020, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

With the use of blockchain, Internet of Things, virtual platform/telecommunications network, artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution, the essential demand for digital transition within the health care settings has increased as an outcome of the 2019 coronavirus illness outbreak and the fourth industrial revolution. The evolution of virtual environments with three-dimensional (3D) spaces and avatars, known as metaverse, has slowly gained acceptance in the field of health care. These environments may be especially useful for patient-facing platforms (such as platforms for telemedicine), functional uses (such as meeting management), digital education (such as modeled medical and surgical learning), treatments and diagnoses. ABSTRACT

The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has taught us many valuable lessons regarding the importance of our physical and mental health. Even with so many technological advancements, we still lag in developing a system that can fully digitalize the medical data of each individual and make it readily accessible for both the patient and health worker at any point in time. Moreover, there are also no ways for the government to identify the legitimacy of a particular clinic. This study merges modern technology with traditional approaches, thereby highlighting a scenario where artificial intelligence (AI) merges with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), proposing a way to advance the conventional approaches. The main objective of our research is to provide a one-stop platform for the government, doctors, nurses, and patients to access their data effortlessly. The proposed portal will also check the doctors' authenticity. Data is one of the most critical assets of an organization, so a breach of data can risk users' lives. Data security is of primary importance and must be prioritized. The proposed methodology is based on cloud computing technology which assures the security of the data and avoids any kind of breach. The study also accounts for the difficulties encountered in creating such an infrastructure in the cloud and overcomes the hurdles faced during the project, keeping enough room for possible future innovations. To summarize, this study focuses on the digitalization of medical data and suggests some possible ways to achieve it. ABSTRACT

To regain overall well-being in the post-pandemic era, the priorities should not be only economic growth but also human physical and mental health. This study investigates how to incorporate the concept of well-being into the circular economy to facilitate the pursuit of individual/personal and social growth, and sustainable consumption. We begin with a systematic search of the literature on well-being and sustainable product–service systems, model the well-being components in peer-to-peer (P2P) sharing and reuse platforms, and propose design guidelines for platform development. According to our findings, (1) allocentric well-being components (such as gratitude, contribution, and altruism) serve as the antecedents of sharing behaviors, while egocentric components (such as pleasure and attachment) serve as the consequences, and (2) information sharing is crucial to initiating the flow of well-being perceptions and sustainable sharing and reuse behaviors. Based on the findings, we suggest a data-driven approach and active inference theory to facilitate related studies. This study sheds light on the potential to develop well-being within the circular economy and facilitate the sustainable working of the sharing and reuse ecosystem.

ABSTRACT

The advance of digitalization is constantly bringing new solutions to various areas of life in our society. The COVID-19 pandemic, among other things, brought increased attention to the application and support of treatments through digital solutions in the healthcare sector due to contact restrictions. However, the development of digital solutions comes at a high cost in terms of time and expenses. Mobile app development requires the development of two separate apps for the two respective market-leading mobile operating systems iOS and Android. Cross-platform frameworks make it possible to develop apps for both operating systems on a single code base, thus saving the development and maintenance of two separate codes. Flutter is currently the most popular cross-platform framework for the development of mobile apps. This paper has evaluated Flutter based on an existing criteria catalogue. As a usage context for the evaluation, a prototype for Cancer Counselling App of the University Medical Center Freiburg was implemented. According to the gained own prototyping experience with Flutter and a thorough literature analysis in this area, the criteria catalogue was filled out and the result was compared with other mobile App development paradigms. ABSTRACT

In order to determine the trend of studies on the factors that generate the consumption of paid video streaming platforms during the COVID-19 pandemic, a systematic review of scientific literature was conducted. To search for the information, the Scopus database and the Concytec repository, Alicia, were consulted. The keywords "streaming”, "platform”, "media”, "COVID-19”, "Netflix”, "video” and "pandemic” were used. Sources were located in three languages. The data analysis allowed dividing the information into five categories: background on the positioning of streaming platforms, audience behaviour, consumption drivers, cases related to Netflix and platforms in times of confinement. It is concluded that during the pandemic, people mutated their mode of digital consumption, becoming more dependent, which has been capitalised on by streaming platforms that, taking advantage of habits, adaptability, and consumption trends, and responding with innovation, have increased users, in a distribution of the sector in which Netflix, thanks to its own strategies, is the leader. These reviewed factors move a consumer marketplace uphill, creating loyalty among previous audiences and tempting new ones, which could even overcome the pandemic period. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

As COVID-19 persists, a new normal has emerged in our lives and consumption patterns. The rapid rise in demand for online consumption without physical contact is a prime example of this shift. Online platform-based markets have evolved into retail channels, allowing consumers to purchase both search goods and experience goods without contact. The platform provides an environment where customers can encounter a diverse range of customer-generated content (CGC) and gain insights into the purchasing experiences of others. However, despite the growing trading volume and diversification of products traded, relatively few studies exist on purchasing tangible experience goods in the online platform-based market. Therefore, this study investigates the impact of CGC (i.e., content and valence) on the market performance of experience goods, such as sales and sales rank in the platform-based market. We first examine the customer experience-related content in CGC in this market and then investigate the effect of CGC on market performance, such as sales and search ranks. We use crawled data from a platform that sells and rents artwork for empirical analysis. LDA topic modeling findings reveal that CGC has three primary topics (i.e., basic, artist, and style). The regression analysis results show that only style-related content improves performance, whereas basic-related content negatively affects search ranks. The valence of CGC does not significantly impact either performance measure. Additionally, we consider the role of rental services in this market and find that rental volume and search rank have an inverted U-shaped relationship. This study has important implications because it proposes a research framework and empirical model for examining the impact of CGC on performance in the online platform-based market for experience goods. It also has important managerial implications for platforms and sellers looking to enhance their market performance by monitoring CGC.

In recent years, the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic has posed a serious threat to the life safety of people around the world, which has also led to the development of a series of online learning assessment technologies. Through the research and development of a variety of online learning platforms such as WeChat, Tencent Classroom and Netease Cloud Classroom, schools can carry out online learning assessment, which also promotes the rapid development of online learning technology. Through 2D and 3D recognition technology, the online learning platform can recognize face and pose changes. Based on 2D and 3D image processing technology, we can evaluate students' online learning, which will identify students' learning state and emotion. Through the granulation of teaching evaluation, online learning platform can accurately evaluate and analyze the teaching process, which can realize real-time teaching evaluation of students' learning status, including no one, many people, distraction and fatigue. Through relevant algorithms, the online learning platform can realize the assessment of students' head posture, which will give real-time warning of learning fatigue. Firstly, this paper analyzes the framework of online learning quality assessment. Then, this paper analyzes the face recognition and head pose recognition technology. ABSTRACT

In a crisis such as COVID-19 that struck the world in 2019, social and community activities are restricted, including in-person classes. On the one hand, these restrictions are aimed as a precautionary measure against the virus spread;on the other hand, this could lead to a lost generation without an educational process. Notwithstanding this, online learning through a video-sharing platform is envisaged as the best way to keep learning in this particular situation. However, students have their learning style preferences. While a video-based sharing platform is seen as the most representative way of facilitating self-directed learning, understanding the motivations driving the adoption is crucial. This paper investigates technical, social, and personal environments that motivate generation Z to utilise this tool for self-directed learning, employing Social Cognitive Theory (SCT) as the theoretical lens. A total of 251 survey responses from this cohort were collected and analysed with a structural equation modelling approach. The findings reveal that perceived usefulness and content quality, peer influence, and self-efficacy and outcome from three perspectives, respectively, determine the adoption intention substantially by 67.1%. These findings provide several important implications for video-sharing platform acceptance in terms of both research and practice. ABSTRACT

Rural hospitality and tourism (RHT) play a key role in rural revitalization, especially due to the impact of COVID-19, with more citizens choosing to travel to the countryside for a staycation. Local SMEs, especially family-owned enterprises, make up the majority of the RHT sector, not only providing services and products to satisfy tourists, but also helping with local employment. However, entrepreneurs operating in rural areas face many challenges in terms of capital, skills and education. Hence, it is important to explore the entrepreneurial intention (EI) of local people and how policies can support or change their behaviours. Current research on the RHT industry, rarely study the EI of local people, and the literature on rural entrepreneurship concentrates on developed countries. This study therefore uses agent-based modelling to explore how locals' EI in Chongming island (China) respond to the current impact of COVID-19, and whether policies will bring about changes on the supply side of RHT sector. © SW 2023.All rights reserved

ABSTRACT

Real-time detection of airborne infection agents present in human breath and environmental airways, such as the human respiratory Coronavirus, is important for public health. For this, a model label-free immunosensor, based on multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT)-based screen-printed graphite electrodes (SPEs), was proposed and studied. For sensing applications, MWNTs have many advantages such as small size with larger surface area, excellent electron transfer promoting ability when used for antibody immobilization, with retention of its selectivity for potential immunosensors development. In order to verify the selectivity of the selected primary antibody (anti-CoV 229E antibody) and the effective immunocomplex formation (antigen-antibody), an in-depth voltammetric characterization of MWNT-SPEs interface was carried out during the multistep fabrication of CoV immunosensor using [Fe(CN)6]3−/4− as an electroactive probe.After that, the analytical robustness of the performances of these immunosensing platforms was estimated and verified. Indeed, a nanomolar range detection limit (180 TCID50/mL)g/mL) with excellent reproducibility (RSD% = 8%) was obtained. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023.
